Spotted running hot laps around the Nürburgring, the next-generation
Volkswagen Golf R looks plenty capable of occupying the top spot in the
Golf lineup.
We assume the new Golf R will use a
turbocharged 2.0 liter four-cylinder engine mated to either a six-speed
manual or a dual-clutch transmission. Expect the production version to
retain all-wheel drive and to have north of the previous MK6 R's 256 hp.
Running
in light camouflage, the car should be unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor
Show in September.
Sales should start in Europe in 2014 while North
American customers will most likely have to wait another year to get
their hands on it.
