Diesel engines are becoming increasingly popular in the United States, so Volkswagen has decided to bring the Golf GTD to America.
Set to arrive in 2015, the Golf GTD features a 2.0-liter turbodiesel engine that develops 184 HP and 280 lb-ft of torque. When connected to a six-speed manual transmission, the
model accelerates from 0-62 mph in 7.5 seconds before hitting a top speed of 143 mph.
According to Golf product manager Andreas Valbuena, "We see it as a very important part of our full range of offerings, a technology halo for our diesel technology."
The Golf GTD is expected to cost approximately $27,000 when it arrives in the United States as a 2016 model.
