84% of pet owners say they travel with their pet in automobiles
If you're planning to take your pet with you on trips in the car, start early when the pet is young to get used to the routine. Short jaunts across town and back or easy day trips will get your pet used to the ride. A carsick pet can make the trip miserable for everyone.
A seat upholstery protector, such as a pet hammock or waterproof seat cover will make clean-ups easier in case your pet does get sick or has an accident.
Be sure to bring along cleaning supplies to avoid having to search out a place to purchase them at the last minute.
Make your pet travel experience fun and enjoyable by following these simple, common sense pet travel tips:

At Volkswagen, we take pride in everything we build—from fun, safe, fuel-efficient cars to a massive 22-person foosball table. That’s why we are especially proud that Strategic Vision, a research-based consultancy that studies how and why consumers make buying decisions, has named Volkswagen their Total Quality Index leader.
Strategic Vision identifies consumers’ motivations to purchase a particular product by looking at everything from product attributes and personal benefits to perceived value and emotions. Three Volkswagen models were named segment leaders in the Total Quality Index study. The Golf took top honors in the small multi-function segment, the Eos led in the convertible under $30,000 segment, and the Tiguan placed first in the entry utility segment.
While Strategic Vision currently has no plans to expand their Total Quality Index to include an oversized foosball table category, we feel pretty confident about our chances should that ever happen.

Herndon, VA - Volkswagen announced today that a 2013 Jetta Hybrid driven by Motor Trend Associate Road Test Editor Carlos Lago recorded a speed of 185.394 mph (298.363 kph) at the Bonneville Salt Flats, near Wendover, Nevada, during the Southern California Timing Association’s (SCTA) annual Speed Week. This is the fastest speed ever achieved by a production-based hybrid car on the famed Bonneville Salt Flats.
“Achieving this speed at Bonneville shows that the all-new 2013 Jetta Hybrid is a distinctly different offering in the compact hybrid class,” said Jonathan Browning, CEO and President, VW Group of America. “As well as being expected to achieve combined fuel economy of 45 mpg, the Jetta Turbo Hybrid also retains the fun-to-drive nature you expect from a Volkswagen in a segment dominated by less exciting vehicles.” Lago drove a Jetta Hybrid specially modified to run according to SCTA rules. The all-new Jetta Hybrid marries a 1.4-liter turbocharged, direct-injection four-cylinder TSI® gasoline engine that generates150 horsepower with a seven-speed DSG® dual-clutch automatic transmission and an electric motor that provides an additional 27 hp. The Jetta Hybrid is part of Volkswagen’s Think Blue® strategy, an initiative that encourages eco-friendly mobility and progressive ideas for responsible action in everyday life. To achieve the kind of horsepower needed to run at 185 mph (298 kph) at Bonneville, the powertrain was modified by Volkswagen R&D in Wolfsburg, Germany. Project integration and other modifications to enable the car to run safely on the salt were handled by A-Salt Racing and Advanced Product Engineering, based in Camarillo, California. The implementation and final calibration of the drivetrain in the car was supported by the engineers from the Volkswagen Test Center California in Oxnard, CA. “We are really proud that our new Jetta Hybrid is the world’s fastest hybrid,” said Marc Trahan, Executive Vice President, Group Quality. “It was a real challenge to integrate the complex hybrid elements and generate the power needed to run at these speeds. The Jetta Hybrid Land Speed Record project shows both the sporty nature of our Hybrid offering and the technical excellence of our engineers in Wolfsburg and in the Test Center California.” Motor Trend Editor-in-Chief Ed Loh commented: “It is a real honor to partner with Volkswagen in this project and we look forward to sharing this adventure with our 1.1 million magazine subscribers, our more than three million website unique users, and our increasingly popular YouTube channel. And we hope that we will be back at the Salt very soon to go even faster with the Jetta Hybrid.”Courtesy of Volkswagen
When the Volkswagen Group of America made plans for expansion, California came out on top as one of the most desirable areas to develop new technology.
With the state having some of the toughest emissions laws in the world, Volkswagen officials said they not only wanted to bring their new testing facility to Southern California, but also to Oxnard for a very specific reason: location.
"We made an evaluation based on the criteria we had to fulfill, and Oxnard came out on top," said Matthias Barke, general manager for the Volkswagen Group Test Center California. "The clean air and the sea level is very important, but also the community.
"We will have so many visitors who will be coming out here, so it all had to come together. Being able to design a facility here in Oxnard so we can work efficiently ... is fantastic."
After two years of planning and construction, Oxnard is now the hub of Volkswagen America's emissions and development test laboratory, with its new $27 million facility. About 125 people joined top officials from Volkswagen, the German consulate and Oxnard city officials on Monday at the official debut of the test facility at 201 Del Norte Blvd.
Members of the media toured the 64,000-square-foot facility, which houses the only North American research and development center for Volkswagen, Audi, Bentley, Bugatti and Lamborghini. Testing for Porsche, which recently was bought by the Volkswagen Group, also will be conducted in the facility.
By October, about 50 jobs will be transferred from Test Center Westlake to the new site, which is larger by about 25,000 square feet, said Darryll Harrison, West Coast communications manager.
Engineers at the Oxnard facility will serve as the final stop for many Volkswagen products before they are approved for production. The multimillion-dollar facility has a climactic chamber where automobiles will be put through varying weather conditions that range from minus 30 degrees Celsius to 40 degrees.
The climate-controlled emissions lab also has a wind speed blower with a top speed of 100 mph and humidity controls from 0 percent to 100 percent. The capability to mimic climate situations also allows testing for vehicles that would be sold in Europe and Japan, said Rick Vasquez, lab operations team leader.
"We can go from hot to cold in a short amount of time, when before they would actually have to go to Alaska or Germany to test vehicles," Vasquez said. "Being in Oxnard affords us to not use air conditioning because the weather usually is in the 70s here, and that saves us a lot of money and energy," Vasquez said. "We will be able to assist the development teams that will come from Germany as well as field teams ... and test in any inclement weather."
During the tour Monday, engineers demonstrated some of the testing they would conduct on more than 25 benches, analyzing components such as oxygen sensors, fuel pumps, secondary air pumps and solenoid values.
With only 85 Bugattis in the United States and 320 in the world, the Oxnard facility also will be the customer headquarters for North America and South America, said Bugatti representative David Jenkins.
Developing a "green" facility was a primary goal when Volkswagen was planning the new facility, Barke said.
Property developer Quattro Development, an affiliate of BLT Enterprises Inc., both of Oxnard, hired Roseville-based SPI Solar to install a solar power system in the building. The facility includes a 430-kilowatt system and more than 2,500 panels on the roof and on carport shade structures.
Oxnard Mayor Tom Holden applauded the green technology at the new facility and Volkswagen's decision to invest in the community.
"We realized that if our families are going to be able to take care of themselves and be able to put food on the table, it would be the manufacturing and high-tech component of businesses that are important," Holden said Monday.

Thank you,Volkswagen AG has hired and trained a third-shift team for its Chattanooga, Tenn., plant, bringing the total number of workers to 3,300.
The three production teams will rotate through two shifts and work 40 hours, VW said.
The plant will operate six days a week, 20 hours a day. This will allow for an increase in plant production time as well as even out weekly work hours for all team members. The addition of the third-shift team has boosted the number of employees well above the 2,000 announced when Volkswagen chose Chattanooga as the site for its only American assembly plant in 2008.
In 2013 the plant will have increased capacity to produce 180,000 vehicles per year, over 30,000 over its original capacity.
"The hard work of our production team over the past year has not only produced a car that won the J.D. Powers APEAL award, but has also provided opportunity for these new employees," said Frank Fischer, head of the Chattanooga plant.
The production change will provide a more predictable work schedule that allows for a better work-life balance for the teams, said Hans-Herbert Jagla, executive vice president of human resources at the plant.

Thanks for replacing the light bulb! Heather MVolkswagen is ready to commit to building a Global Rallycross car for next season, following a recent X Games visit from motorsport director Jost Capito.
The German firm's marketing boss, Stefan Moser, said with the format of the Global Rallycross series and the proposed European tour of the X Games (June 30-July 1), it made sense to build a 600-hp version of the Volkswagen Polo.
“What Jost saw at the X Games was nearly the perfect sport,” said Moser. “It had everything we need, including young spectators in an urban area. [Global Rallycross] is easy to cover and easy to understand.”
Global Rallycross features door-to-door racing, as opposed to a series of timed stages.
“If you were to go and ask somebody in the street: 'How does the World Rally Championship work?' they wouldn't know,” Moser said. “It's not like Formula One, people in the street don't understand WRC.
“Next year might be pushing it to get a car up and running for the X Games and American [GRC] series, but why not? The market is growing very fast, and we are always interested in good motorsport markets.”
Car manufacturers in Global Rallycross for the 2012 season include Ford, Hyundai, Saab, Dodge and Subaru.

If communication is the key to a happy relationship, that might explain why so many people love Volkswagen.
“Volkswagen vehicles like to communicate more than some other makes and models,” says Megan Closset, Sales Curriculum Designer for the Volkswagen Academy.
Case in point: your VW’s large vocabulary of dashboard indicator lights. Learn to speak “Volkswagen” using Closset’s tips, and you’ll soon know the range of things they can tell you about your vehicle—everything from low fuel to an engine malfunction.
Start with your owner’s manual. It explains your vehicle’s indicator lights, what they mean and what to do when each appears. This is especially important for Volkswagen TDI® or hybrid vehicles, which may have some lights that are unfamiliar. Here are a few examples: [1]
This light alerts drivers of Volkswagen TDI® Clean Diesel vehicles when the particulate filter is blocked by soot. The particulate filter is “kind of like a self-cleaning oven that burns off the particulate matter from our Clean Diesel models,” Closset says. “If you see this light, you need to keep driving in order to bring your diesel up to operating temperature, so that it can generate enough heat in the exhaust system for the particulate filter to regenerate itself—about 15 minutes of driving of at least 30 miles per hour.”
According to Closset, this is a symbol that’s often misunderstood. It appears whenever a driver needs to apply the brake in order to shift from “Park” to “Reverse,” “Neutral” or “Drive.” It’s a safety lockout that prevents you from shifting into gear by accident from “Park” in a vehicle with an automatic transmission.
This indicator is part of your Volkswagen vehicle’s security system. If it illuminates, you may be using the incorrect key to try to start your vehicle.
You’re probably familiar with this indicator, but do you know what it really means? “The check engine light with all manufacturers is a very generic, all-purpose warning light that means any minor to major thing could be awry for a car,” Closset says. If your check engine light is flashing or your vehicle is driving noticeably different, she recommends having the issue diagnosed by your dealer at your earliest convenience. A light that’s red or flashing is more urgent.
Consider the color. A light’s color can tell you the potential severity of the alert.
Look at handling. If a warning light appears and your car is driving differently, Closset recommends pulling over and dialing Volkswagen Roadside Assistance at 800.411.6688. [2]
Having your vehicle regularly serviced by a Volkswagen technician can help keep indicators from lighting up your dash. But if one does appear, don’t panic. “If you’re not familiar with what a light means and it gives you reason to pause, pull over to a safe place and look in your owner’s manual,” Closset says. “Once you determine the cause of the light, then you can comfortably continue driving, call your dealership or call Volkswagen Roadside Assistance.”

What's bett er than driving with the top down and the wind in your hair? Cruising in the open air while saving a ton of money at the pump.
The EPA has just released its figures for the 2013 Volkswagen Beetle Convertible, and the numbers don't lie. The Beetle Convertible TDI, with its 140 horsepower diesel four-cylinder, gets 21 28 miles per gallon city and 41 mpg highway when paired with the six-speed manual transmission. That highway number makes the Beetle Convertible TDI the most fuel efficient convertible in America. Want more power and still want to save fuel? The turbocharged 2.0-liter gas engine puts out 200 horsepower while returning 21 mpg city and 30 highway. By comparision, the Smart ForTwo Cabriolet gets 34/38, with a combined rating of 36 mpg. That's good enough to beat out the Beetle Convertible TDI's 32 combined MPG, but if you do more highway driving, no other droptop will rival the max fuel economy of the Beetle.Courtesy of AutoblogGreen
