The opening of the new Shanghai Volkswagen (SVW) plant in Yizheng, Eastern China, with an annual production capacity of around 300,000 vehicles, demonstrates the Group’s huge commitment to the Chinese growth market.
“The new factory is one of the most eco-friendly plants in the Volkswagen Group. We will play a major role in shaping the future of China as a car manufacturing location through modern technologies and new production methods,” declared Prof. Dr. Jochem Heizmann, Member of the Board of Management of Volkswagen AG, who was designated to take charge of the newly created Group division “China”.
He also praised the fruitful collaboration with Chinese partners throughout the joint venture to build the factory, which actually resulted in the early opening of the plant. Initially the Polo will be built at Yizheng, the second location for this model in China, providing greater production flexibility.
